About Us
Find out more about us, our setting and what we do to make it special for our little learners.
Our PreSchool
We’ve carefully designed our environment to bring together all the essential ingredients for exceptional childcare, enhanced with moments of awe and wonder that inspire children to think creatively and explore their learning in new ways.
Having begun as a village playgroup in the early 1970s and becoming a registered charity in 1983, we have proudly been based within the grounds of John Hellins Primary School since 2001.
Our village and 'our preschool' are rich with history, we strive to make use of the wider community and introduce our students into it. From the pear trees and orchards that once filled the landscape to the beautiful pottery crafted locally, our setting is shaped by a heritage that guides our belief that education begins with strong roots and grows through creativity, curiosity, and exploration.

We are a child-led setting offering lots of exciting opportunities to take part in village events, explore our surroundings, and spend time in the conservation area connecting with nature and the natural environment.
Our team is made up of highly qualified, dedicated professionals who are passionate about nurturing each child’s development across all areas of learning.
We are a committee-run preschool, which means parents are encouraged to share their views on their child’s development and play an active role in supporting the setting. Our parent committee also helps to raise essential funds that contribute to our running costs and the resources we provide.
We are also a free-flow setting, offering direct access to our outdoor learning area where children can enjoy a wide range of fun and engaging activities.
This allows us to provide continuous provision, whatever the weather.
Our outdoor space includes messy play, a sensory kitchen, sandpit, water play and climbing opportunities, all thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and encourage hands-on exploration.
Children play outside in all weathers, and with the right clothing we make the most of every season-splashing in puddles, enjoying the sunshine, or exploring the magic of ice play.
Spending time outdoors gives children plenty of fresh air, which supports their wellbeing, boosts energy levels, and enriches their overall learning experience

Preschool Adventures
We have teamed up with the Parish Council, who have kindly allowed us to run our ‘Little Explorers’ nature school in the village conservation area, which is included in your fees. This magical outdoor classroom lets us explore throughout the year, whatever the season or the weather.
Children delight in spotting new buds and spring birds, watching frogspawn turn into froglets, and discovering the wonders of nature all around them.
We also use this time to sing songs, draw and paint the colours we see, and listen closely to the sounds around us: from the buzzing of grasshoppers nearby to distant rustling in the trees.
These experiences not only spark imagination and creativity but also support early literacy skills. By practising careful listening and tuning into the sounds in their environment, children begin to refine their awareness of phonics, which lays a strong foundation for learning to read and write.
